http://www.thecelticwiki.com/page/Gribben,+Jimmy I managed to read Archie Macpherson's biography on Jock Stein when travelling to and from Lisbon this week and Jimmy's name came up as a hugely important man. The wiki article covers it, but it got me wondering if anyone had any information on his death? I can't even find a date other than pre-1978. Edited by Psychoheart, Nov 23 2012, 07:57 PM.

Think he died not long after Jock's testimonial in '78. One of his grandchildren attended the recent 125th anniversary mass, will try and find out for you. |

At least one answer was on the Celtic Wiki. http://www.thecelticwiki.com/page/1976-11-20%3A+Heart+of+Midlothian+3-4+Celtic,+Premier+Division A small sidenote in the match report seems to read (it's blurry so I'm guessing): "Ex-Celtic Scout Dies Former Celtic scout, Jimmy Gribben, who was involved in signing Jock Stein from Llanelly, has died at the age of 81. The Celtic players wore black arm bands at Tynecastle yesterday as a mark of respect." So that places his death on or just before November 20th, 1976. |

I know at one point he stayed in Crompton Avenue on the South Side about half a mile from Big Jock and Sean's houses but don't know if he still lived there when he died. |

I'm not on my laptop, so I can't check right now, but I tend to go towards the Evening Times on Google Newspapers for 60s/70s football deaths. Edited by steve, Feb 7 2013, 09:21 AM.
