We all like a little challenge:

1) What is this guy's actual name? Any way to find out?
According to A-Z of the Celts: Matthew or Michael Joseph Flannagan

2) Notable little bit of trivia which I figured out on reading about him. He only played in four games against four teams, and all have now long gone:
Rangers
Leith Athletic
Third Lanark
Abercorn
Guess the question is if there is any other player with such a record, if not with more sides? (Okay I thought it was curious fun fact)

"might be nothing," confirmed  M Flannagan (cyclist) is from Tipperary, and raced a 6-day race in May 1892.

Completely exhausted every search combination that I can think of in the British Newspaper Archive. Can't find any record of him, apart from his surname appearing in some Celtic and Reserves games.

AotC has "Matthew, or Michael Joseph" as his forenames. Imagine that Eugene opted for these as they are the two Govan-est born Flannagans in 1872. There's lots more from further afield.

Doesn't bloody help that you need to search for about 4 different surname spelling combo's every time

Found -some- Flannigan/Flannagin/Flannegan stuff yesterday. Just going to paste what I've found.

Some references to a half-back Flannigan of Celtic. Wonder if we had more than one?

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald - Friday 02 December 1892
Quote:

Two prominent Hurlford players, names were freely mentioned, also Brodie and M'Pberson who both have still hankering after their old love. Flannigan, of the Celtic, is said to have been the other. Flannigan belongs Kilmarnock, and learned his football in the Strollers, but one and all were passed over, and the committee very wisely decided to stand or fall by their present team, which is something their credit

Interesting

We were right, for when the teams [Hurlford] turned out, only one Celtic Reserve man was observed among them—Flannigan, the ex-Killie Stroller, at half-back.

Hmm. This guy's a half-back.

"Sparrow" was a forward.
