Fearless Jeremiah Reynolds was a defensive stalwart of the early Cetic.

A coal miner by trade, the Maryhill-born right-back joined the Bhoys in September 1889 after spells with Cowlairs, Hibernian and Carfin Shamrock which also saw him make a guest appearance in a friendly for the Parkhead club.

His competitive debut was a 0-0 Scottish Cup draw with Queen's Park at Celtic Park on September 7th 1889. Exceptionally powerful in the air - he was said to be able to head the ball further than he could kick it! - and as brave as they come Jerry was a popular figure among the Celtic support. He made 99 apearances for Celtic before joining Burnley in May 1895 after a row with the Parkhead committee.

He would return to Celtic in 1911 in an off-field role when he took up the position of press box steward.

Iirc we looked into some basic info on Jerry Reynolds before - Not sure where that info is now. :hmmm:

It wasn't in great detail but it sticks in my mind that Jerry was living at 54 Longford Street,Carntyne when he died and he had a bust up with the Celtic Committee when he stuck up for Dan Doyle after a game possibly at Stoke.

Although he is at Rest in an unmarked grave we do know where it is in Dalbeth.

^^^^

Thinking again from the dark and deep recessess's of my napper  - It was either the Reynolds incident (iirc there were a few ) or Johnny Campbell that Willie Maley used to have a pop at John H McLaughlin re "the stupid actions of a Committee Man"?*

Edit - *"The stupid actions" reference is in "The Alphabet" under Campbell or Reynolds if anyone has one to hand?
