Pat Woods brung me round a book this morning with 2 pages marked for me to read, not read they pages yet but had a browse and found this:Source is a book by Prof. Joe Bradley friend of the CGS - Sport, Culture, Politics and Scottish Society - Irish Immigrants and the Gaelic Athletic Association. I would be much obliged if someone from on here who has his contact details, ask him for the source of the information especially "The man in the know" Tom Maley reference as its a question which has been asked many times on this forum. Reading between the lines i think the article above is from 1913. |

I think you'll get his details in the committee forum AFAIK there was a suggestion that there were several "Man in the know" contributors, with the main one being Maley Edited by Dianogah, Jul 25 2012, 03:35 PM.

Aye there was a thread about it on here. http://celticgraves.com/topic/9250391/1/ Suggestion's are just that and nothing came of it, when possible i prefer to deal with facts and if Joe has a source i would like to know it. Think the most important thing about the post is we now know what this photo is all about. ![]() |

(brother of the Celtic manager, Wullie), enthused at the wonderful spectacle which took place at Celtic Park. Maley was even taken by the appearance of the Rory Oge O More Pipe Band who the Celtic directors arranged to appear again at Celtic Park the following August. Although The Star was dominated by soccer reports, particularly those pertaining to the Celtic club. 'The Man In The Know' was clearly taken by the exhibition hurling match. Writing in the following week's Star, Maley wrote:The game itself was a revelation to those of us who look upon football as the last word in competitive sport...The players covered more ground than any football fifteen could do in the allotted time and space; their ambidextrous strokes were a combination of golf, baseball, cricket, and tennis swings, and all the time eye and muscle had to synchronise, the ball timed with the utmost accuracy, and sent either to a waiting comrade or as near the opponents' goal as possible.
