Surname(s):

LOGAN : QUSKLAY
Query Text:

My great-grandfather was born round about 1840 in the Kilbeggan area and may have moved to Scotland as his son James came from Dundee,serving in the army in the Boer and great wars.He in turn married Mary Logan and they lived in Larch St. Dundee until his death in 1923 or 24.According to my father John, who died in 1988,the Qusklay family hailed from Kilbeggan and Tullamore.It would seem that the name was wrongly spelt at some time, which makes tracing more difficult.Can anyone help or put me in touch with whoever has access to parish records for the middle of the 19th century?

Jack Qusklay was my father and he was born in Dundee in1902.He was trainer to Dundee United from 1927 until 1932 and was trainer to Celtic from then until 1934.After leaving Celtic he set up a Physiotherapy practice in Dundee and for a year he also trained Dundee. In 1936 or 37 he became Director of Physical Education at University College Dundee,which at that time was a College of St.Andrews University and is now an independent University.He remained there for the rest of his working life,retiring in1968. With my mother Grace,who he married in 1928, he then moved south to Reading to be close to my wife Marilyn and I,and to his brother George who lived in Windsor.He died in The Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading in 1988 after he fell and broke his hip..
Our family came from Ireland,I think from Kilbeggan, in the 1800s and there are numerous varieties of the spelling of the name.My grandfather is Quaskaly on his birth certificate and Qusklay when he married my grandmother Mary Logan in 1896.
If anyone can find the missing vowel can you send it to me,Ian Qusklay.
