Just realised that, in the Home Govt Branch's delegation to the Irish Race Convention in 1896 (Celtic sent a separate delegation) as well as founding fathers like Shaughnessy, Dunbar, the Murphy brothers and James Kelly, Tom Colgan was also present.

Maybe this indicates that his connection with Celtic came through nationalist politics in the first instance? It's certainly a good few years before he became a Director.
