Not sure that's Toome House. Apparently there was a big refurbishment at Toome House, and its split into Units. Toome Surgery is supposedly there, and here's a sign for the surgery a bit back up the road. If you go west one click, my money is on the building with "pharmacy" on the side being the renovated/replacement Toome House. http://goo.gl/m6fWw Confirmation. http://www.geograph.ie/photo/2083079 Assume it was either a knock-down and rebuild, a new Toome House, or an oofty big refurbishment Edited by steve, Feb 16 2011, 07:36 PM.

Cheers. Once I'd decided to bite the bullet and just search all 1914 Glasgow Heralds it's been quite enjoyable. Irish burials are going to be a right pain in the arse though unless they get their finger out and get the archived newspapers online, free. |

I see from his marriage certificate that James' father was called Francis I know it's not getting us closer to his grave, but this could be of interest. Might not even be the correct Francis Grant. The Belfast News-Letter (Belfast, Ireland), Friday, February 3, 1899; Issue 26053. ![]() |

I blattered the door of the parochial House, next to the new church, but no one was in - I wanted to see the records to double check that was definitely his grave - I'd be 99% certain it is though. |

I can match up 99% of the other names (Francis et al) on the graves with residents of Toome (Francis, son of Francis ran the guest house) Tom Colgan and James Grant lived in Toome House, so i'm hoping we can confirm he's ion the "Toome house" one |

Chuckles - was advised by a descendant of John O'Hara at the commemoration on Sunday that the family believe he may have played a role, or rather Celtic played a role, in the founding of Belfast Celtic? He said there's a reference somewhere to the Secretary of GC providing assistance to BC - ever hear of this? And just wondering if there was a firm connection between James Grant and BC? |
