Stephen Henry was another early Celtic Commiteeman - think he's buried in Dalbeth too.

Hi
I'm Hugh Darroch's great grand daughter Mairi who posted on the Kerrydale Street site, just got round to joining this site. You have found some really interesting information, fantastic research been done. If you are looking for any specific information I might be able to help with just let me know although judging by your efforts so far you will probably know way more than me!
In an earlier post you asked if any of the marriages listed were for Hugh's son, the one listed in 1924 between Hugh Darroch and Jesse Macfarlane is the wedding of my grandfather and granny, Hugh's son. He died in 1942, I think, as a result of long term ill health arising from injuries from fighting in the Somme in WW1. He is buried in Glenlivet. My father also Hugh Darroch, only grandson of the Treasurer HD, was born in 1933 and died in 1997, he is buried in Inverness so is definitely not the Hugh Darroch you mentioned being buried in Glasgow in the 1970s. There were also some interesting connections on my Granny's side to Celtic, we understand she was engaged to James Kelly who was involved with Celtic prior to WW1 but I think he died in service and she then met my grandfather and she also acted in an informal capacity as a club translator for some european games celtic played when she was a young girl. Since you are looking at graves there is a religious connection too as their cousin was Archbishop James Scanlan, Archbishop of Glasgow at one time and he also lived in childhood I think just off Duke Street so not far from where Hugh lived. I just had a look at other posts in your founding fathers section and saw the thread about James Grant, for information Tom Grant you refer to as great grandson of the original James Grant is my cousin and his father Jim Grant and my dad Hugh Darroch were brought up together for some time when they were kids, just thought I would mention it in case it helps you join the dots. Anyway, thanks again for all your information.
all the best

Hi Marid

You maybe able to help up us. We are looking to trace a T Walls who was a committee member. We know that Hugh was married to a Sarah Walls

http://celticgraves.com/topic/8297284/3/

Do you know any more about the Walls?

Hia
Not really, sorry, we thought he was married to Mary Walls and when Hugh died she then married someone named Neeson and had a son with him who was Hugh's son's half-brother Tommy Neeson.
Unfortunately the older generation of the family are no longer here to ask for info.

Many thanks Mairi - great to see you made your way here!

Some fascinating info that you've passed on. James Kelly's eldest son (I think his name was Frank) did die in WW1. Do you know anything more of how the connection between the Darrochs and the Grants came about? The Archbishop Scanlon connection is another one of interest also.

Welcome aboard!

Hi
Re your query about the Grants and the Darrochs then I know of the most direct connection which stems from my grandmother Jessie Darroch (nee Macfarlane), wife of the son of Hugh Darroch the Treasurer, also Hugh Darroch. She had 6 brothers and 2 sisters, one of her sisters was Elizabeth (Bette) and she gave birth to James (Jim) Grant who was the father of Tom Grant, former Celtic Director, Jim was close to my father Hugh Darroch as they were brought up together for a time as boys. My granny's own family the Macfarlanes also had close links to the Kelly family (as in Michael, Kevin et al) as I think they all knew each other from growing up in the Bothwell area. The Archbishop Scanlan connection was that he was the cousin of either my granny or grandfather but I can't remember which.
Not sure that this helps much but best I can do for now.
all the best
Mairi
