(The 1959 is a reference not the date)

The flag on top of the pavillion i'd imagine would be the Ireland flag of the time ie the green background with the gold harp before the tricolour was introduced in 1922.

The flag above the Janefield St Stand in the 1905 photo which looks a little like a Four Provinces flag was the flag flown by the League winners of the previous season.

A storm in 1894 blew the roof into the cemetery.

It mentions the storm damage in one of the history books (i'll dig it out) but that's the first time i've seen a newspaper clipping of it.

:notworthy:

The cooperage mentioned adjoining CP was where the tenements on Janefield St stood outside the Celtic End.
Great Eastern Road was the original name for the Gallowgate i'm sure too.

Glasgow Road

The Jungle roof was also damaged by a hurricane which hit Glasgow in Jan 1968, done a bit of searching and only mention of Celtic Park is by a local (kid at the time) who lived in Janefield St.

Taken this from a Glasgow Discussion Forum:

I remember that night vividly. I stayed in Janefield Street next to Celtic Park. The roof of the Jungle ended up in the street. I got to school at Riverside that morning and only about six had shown up from our class.

Four people were killed at 555 Dumbarton Road due to a collapse caused by the winds.

Quite a night

Hope this is of interest
