Bertie Thompson a famous winger of the 1930's who laid on many a goal for Jimmy McGrory - He is buried in Abbey Cemetery at Elderslie - He died young at 30 - His gravestone has the inscription "Bertie of Celtic".

Bertie has been found!

With thanks yet again to that man lubohenrik (CM), proving himself a proper Timdiana Jones for his intrepid raids throughout Renfrewshire, here are the pics we've been hoping for - and it's good news:

Do not adjust your set . . . it's just a poor quality scan.

It is a newspaper report confirming that 10,000 supporters turned up at Bertie Thomson's house in Argyle Street to see his coffin being removed before being transported to his grave in Elderslie. Incredible. A clear sign of the tremendous fondness that Celtic fans and many others had for 'Bertie of Celtic'.

Thanks JBC, I'll leave a message. Bertie has a cracking headstone in good condition on which he's referred to as "Bertie of Celtic". Hopefully the family member knows of this.
